This December, Optics11 Life is taking part in 3FM Serious Request โ Spieren voor Spieren with our own initiative: Measures for Muscles. Throughout the month, we are turning 3D muscle research into real-world impact for children living with muscular diseases.
For those unfamiliar: 3FM Serious Request is an annual Dutch radio fundraiser in which three presenters are locked in a โGlass Houseโ and broadcast nonstop to raise money for a chosen charity. This year, donations support Spieren voor Spieren, an organisation dedicated to helping children with muscular diseases and their families.
Turning 3D muscle bundles into donations
With Measures for Muscles, every 3D muscle bundle created on our Cuore platform contributes directly to the cause. For each bundle cast by our partners, Optics11 Life donates โฌ3 to Spieren voor Spieren. Our colleagues are also putting their own muscles to work, cycling as far as they can to further boost the total amount raised.
Our colleagues are also putting their own muscles to work. On 15 and 16 December, two indoor cycles will be set up at our office, and team members will cycle as far as they can to multiply the total amount raised through Cuore bundles.
Contributions so far
- The DMD research lab at Leiden University Medical Center | 24 skeletal muscle bundles
- The Trinity Centre for Biomedical Engineering | 48 cardiac muscle bundles
- Charles River Laboratories | 48 skeletal muscle bundles
- The FSHD research lab at Leiden University Medical Center | 24 skeletal muscle bundles
- Research teams at Kingโs College London โ 72 cardiac muscle bundles
- Maastricht UMC+ | 96 smooth muscle bundles
In the photos below, you can see a selection of the 3D muscle bundles cast so far on Cuore, representing the collective effort of our partners to advance muscle research while supporting a meaningful cause.
How you can still participate
To support our action, Measures for Muscles:
- Use Cuore to cast 3D muscle bundles in December
- Tell us how many bundles you created and share a photo of your plate or constructs
- Or contribute directly with a donation of any size via our action page: https://www.npo3fm.nl/kominactie/acties/measures-for-muscles
By combining cutting-edge 3D muscle research with a shared commitment to social impact, we hope to make a tangible difference for children affected by muscular disease.
